About JAMA Network Open: JAMA Network Open is the new online-only open access general medical journal from the JAMA Network. On weekdays, the journal publishes peer-reviewed clinical research and commentary in more than 40 medical and health subject areas. Every article is free online from the day of publication.
About The Study: This study found that fear of disclosing sexual orientation or gender identity information and discrimination are important barriers to advance care planning for sexual and gender minority (SGM) people in clinical settings, but discussions of preferences and values still occur between many SGM people and medical decision-makers.
Authors: Amanda Jane Reich, Ph.D., M.P.H., of Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, is the corresponding author.
