What The Study Did: In this study, California’s gun violence restraining order (GVRO) lawwasn’t significantly associated with a reduction in firearm violence of any kind in San Diego County during its first four years of implementation (2016 to 2019). While these results suggest the GVRO law didn’t reduce population-level rates of firearm violence in San Diego County, future studies should investigate whether there were individual-level benefits to those directly affected.
