Its distribution will be solely digital and all content will be freely available for anyone to read.

About The Study: The results of this study that included 2,163 hospitals suggest that although hospitals experienced a sizeable reduction in operating margins in 2020, their overall profit margins remained similar to those in prior years, suggesting that the COVID-19 relief fund effectively offset the financial losses for hospitals during the COVID-19 pandemic. Government, rural and smaller hospitals generated higher overall profit margins during 2020 than in prior years.

About The Study: The results of this systematic review and meta-analysis of 81 studies suggest that patients with cancer and SARSCoV-2 infection had a higher risk of death than patients without cancer. USPSTF Recommends Against Screening for COPD in Asymptomatic Adults

JAMA

EMBARGOED FOR RELEASE: 11 A.M. (ET), TUESDAY, MAY 10, 2022

Media advisory: To contact the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force, email the Media Coordinator at Newsroom@USPSTF.net or call 301-951-9203. The full report and related articles are linked to this news release.

Embed this link to provide your readers free access to the full-text article This link will be live at the embargo time and all USPSTF articles remain free indefinitely https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jama/fullarticle/10.1001/jama.2022.5692?guestAccessKey=c6636bea-bc7e-4706-8242-b2c8348eaf61&utm_source=For_The_Media&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=ftm_links&utm_content=tfl&utm_term=051022

Bottom Line: The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) recommends against screening for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) in asymptomatic adults who do not recognize or report respiratory symptoms. Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease is an irreversible reduction of airflow in the lungs. Progression to severe disease can prevent participation in normal activities because of deterioration of lung function. In 2020 it was estimated that approximately 6% of U.S. adults had been diagnosed with COPD. The USPSTF routinely makes recommendations about the effectiveness of preventive care services and this statement is a reaffirmation of its 2016 recommendation statement.

Flying Intervention Team vs Patient Interhospital Transfer on Time to Endovascular Thrombectomy

JAMA

EMBARGOED FOR RELEASE: 2:30 A.M. (ET), THURSDAY, MAY 5, 2022

Media advisory: The full study is linked to this news release.

Embed this link to provide your readers free access to the full-text article This link will be live at the embargo time https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jama/fullarticle/10.1001/jama.2022.5948?guestAccessKey=19a5f977-3ba3-40e0-936e-e141c22824d8&utm_source=For_The_Media&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=ftm_links&utm_content=tfl&utm_term=050522

About The Study: In a nonurban stroke network in Germany, deployment of
a flying intervention team to local stroke centers, compared with patient interhospital transfer to referral centers, was significantly associated with shorter time to endovascular thrombectomy (EVT) for patients with acute ischemic stroke. The findings may support consideration of a flying intervention
team for some stroke systems of care, although further research is needed to confirm long-term clinical outcomes and to understand applicability to other geographic settings.
