In a phase 3 randomized clinical trial of children and young adults with sickle cell disease acute pain episodes, intravenous arginine did not shorten time to crisis resolution compared with placebo. No significant differences were observed in opioid use, pain scores, patient-reported outcomes, or safety events. The trial was stopped early for futility.
