What are the available multiomic data on major depressive disorder (MDD) genetic and epigenetic dysregulation and what molecular pathways are involved in disease pathogenesis? This systematic review found differentially expressed and differentially methylated genes in MDD brain and blood that also have variants that have been associated with MDD in GWAS databases. The findings suggest the possibility of dysregulated molecular pathways in MDD that are detectable in the blood and can provide biomarkers for patient phenotypical stratification and treatment targets.
