Are there shared and unique clinically diagnosed health conditions and polygenic scores (PGSs) associated with suicide attempt (SA) and suicide? In this case-control study, 546 314 and 108 628 individuals were included in the health conditions and PGS analyses, respectively. Chronic diseases showed stronger associations with SA, while severe conditions (eg, cancer) were more strongly associated with suicide; suicide was influenced only by PGSs for psychiatric genetic risk factors, whereas SA was associated with both psychiatric and broader health-related genetic risk factors.Risk factors for SA and suicide incompletely overlapped and may present distinct opportunities for prevention, risk prediction, and suicide-risk screening.
