Can an automated and scalable treatment decision rule (TDR) predict which individuals will benefit from psychotherapies vs usual care for late-life depression?A TDR can retrospectively assign individuals to psychotherapies or usual care. The TDR may potentially reduce depression compared with usual care and was somewhat superior to assigning all individuals to psychotherapy; older adults with more severe depression, lower cognitive function, and stronger social support are expected to benefit most from psychotherapies. This TDR was designed to automatically assign older adults in community settings to their optimal intervention and may improve cost-effectiveness, precision, and response rates.
