Intracranial Pressure Treatment Thresholds in Pediatric Traumatic Brain Injury

What intracranial pressure (ICP) thresholds are associated with favorable long-term outcomes in pediatric moderate to severe traumatic brain injury (pTBI), and do these differ from the current treatment target of 20 mm Hg?In this cohort study, lower ICP thresholds (approximately 14-15 mm Hg) were consistently associated with improved functional outcomes. These associations persisted after rigorous adjustment for confounding including baseline injury severity and treatment intensity.The findings of this study support reevaluating guideline targets for ICP management in pTBI and highlights the need for prospective, age-specific validation to optimize neuroprotective strategies.
