Trends in Hockey-Related Ocular Trauma

What are the injury characteristics of hockey-related ocular trauma and its national incidence? In this cross-sectional study using the National Electronic Injury Surveillance System, the incidence of hockey-related eye injuries from 2004 to 2023 was 6466, with an upward trend observed in the most recent 5 years. A considerable number of cases were found to be vision threatening. The findings suggest that greater awareness and advocacy for protective eyewear to prevent vision-threatening hockey-related injuries are needed.
