Cultured Human Corneal Endothelial Cell Injection for Endothelial Graft Failure After DSAEK

What changes in corneal clarity and endothelial function are associated with the use of cultured human corneal endothelial cells (HCECs) in eyes with graft failure after Descemet stripping automated endothelial keratoplasty (DSAEK)?In this case series of 4 eyes with post-DSAEK graft failure, cultured HCECs were associated with improvements in visual acuity, central corneal thickness, and endothelial cell density within 3 months. Intraocular pressure remained stable, and no intraoperative or postoperative complications occurred.These findings suggest that cultured HCECs may offer a minimally invasive regenerative alternative to repeat keratoplasty, although results are based on only 4 eyes without controls.
