Dose Reduction of Preoperative Radiotherapy in Myxoid Liposarcoma

Is a dose reduction of preoperative radiotherapy in patients with myxoid liposarcoma oncologically safe with long-term follow up?In this phase 2 nonrandomized clinical trial of 90 patients with myxoid liposarcoma of the trunk or extremity, a reduced-dose preoperative radiotherapy regimen of 36 Gy in 18 daily fractions demonstrated 97.4% local recurrence-free survival at 5 years. Among 87 patients who underwent surgery, wound complication and grade 2 or higher toxic effects occurred in 14 patients (16%) and 16 patients (18%), respectively.These updated data are compelling, and a reduced dose can be considered in shared decision-making with the patient.
