Local Salvage Therapy Alone for Local Recurrence of Prostate Cancer After Radiotherapy

What are the outcomes of local salvage therapies alone for local recurrence of prostate cancer after definitive radiotherapy?In this meta-analysis of 31 studies involving 4525 patients, pooled 2-year and 5-year androgen deprivation therapy–free survival rates were 76.8% and 55.2% and metastasis-free survival rates were 90.4% and 75.2%; rates of severe or worse adverse events ranged from 2% to 14% depending on the treatment method.The study results suggest that local salvage therapies alone have reasonable efficacy in well-selected patients with local recurrence of prostate cancer after radiotherapy who wish to avoid androgen deprivation therapy.
