Treatment of Follicular Lymphoma With CHOP and Anti-CD20 Therapy

Is advanced-stage follicular lymphoma (FL) curable with standard chemoimmunotherapy treatment?In this secondary analysis of the SWOG S0016 trial of 531 individuals with FL, the overall 15-year overall survival was 70%, and cure modeling estimated an overall cure rate of 42%. The median follow-up was 15.5 years, and the rate of relapse declined substantially over time, from 6.8% during the first 5 years to 0.6% between 15 and 20 years.The findings represent a major paradigm shift in the understanding and approach to FL, with broad implications for initial patient discussions, clinical care, and research strategies involving patients with FL.
