What are the risk and excess burden of neurological events following acute dengue infection? In this population-based cohort study that included 65 207 confirmed dengue-infected cases and 1 616 865 uninfected comparators, odds of any composite new-incident neurological event, memory loss, movement disorders, and other neurological events were significantly elevated in acute dengue infection vs uninfected comparators. However, overall excess burden was modest, with less than 1 excess event per 100 cases. The findings suggest that acute dengue infection is associated with higher odds of new-incident neurological events after infection, and older adults should be monitored for a wider spectrum of potential neurological complications following dengue infection.
