Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy and Risk of Out-of-Hospital Cardiac Arrest

What is the long-term risk of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) following a first-time diagnosis of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM)?This cohort study included 5901 patients with incident HCM and 23 339 matched controls. The results showed a significantly increased 10-year OHCA risk in patients with HCM compared with matched controls within the corresponding age groups (18-60 years: 2.7% vs 1.5%; 61-85 years: 4.4% vs 3.2%).These findings suggest that HCM was associated with an increased risk of OHCA, underscoring the need for improved risk stratification to optimize primary prevention.
