Is there an association between maternal history of weight cycling and gestational weight gain?In this cohort study of 1188 pregnant individuals, history of weight cycling was associated with higher gestational weight gain in a dose-dependent manner. Individuals with 3 or more weight cycles gained a mean of 6.2 kg more during pregnancy than those with no history of weight cycling. In this study, history of weight cycling was associated with higher weight gain during pregnancy, which is known to increase risk of adverse infant and maternal outcomes, such as higher infant birth weight and postpartum weight retention.
