Hormone Therapy After Oophorectomy and Breast Cancer Risk in Women With Pathogenic Variant

Is hormone replacement therapy (HRT) use after risk-reducing bilateral oophorectomy (RRBO) associated with increased breast cancer (BC) risk in women carrying and pathogenic variants (PVs)?In this cohort study of 919 women, HRT after RRBO was not associated with increased BC risk. Estrogen-only therapy was associated with reduced BC risk among women with PV. Combined estrogen-progestin HRT was not associated with BC risk modification.Findings of this study suggest that estrogen-only HRT after RRBO is associated with lower BC risk in women with PV and does not appear to increase risk in those with PV.
