Survival and Treatment Patterns in Stage III Inflammatory and Noninflammatory Breast Cancer

Do breast cancer–specific survival (BCSS) and trimodality therapy (TMT) vary between inflammatory breast cancer (IBC) and non-IBC by tumor subtype and over time?In this population-based cohort study of 47 702 patients, patients with IBC had significantly worse BCSS than patients with non-IBC across all tumor subtypes. Between 2010 and 2020, TMT use among patients with IBC decreased significantly, from 33.9% to 24.2%, and there was no significant improvement in BCSS over time; however, BCSS improved significantly among patients with non-IBC.These findings suggest that patients with IBC have worse BCSS than patients with non-IBC across all tumor subtypes, receive TMT less frequently over time, and show no improvement in BCSS over time.
