What are the perceived individual and family barriers and facilitators to lifestyle change for Latino/a adult participants in the National Diabetes Prevention Program? In this qualitative study of 22 Spanish-speaking Latino/a adults, participants described internal cultural biases and gender roles as barriers while highlighting family and program support as facilitators that influence diabetes prevention efforts. These findings suggest that addressing cultural bias and gender roles and enhancing family and program support may improve future diabetes prevention programs, facilitating diabetes prevention behaviors among participating Latino/a adults.
