Surgical Outcomes After Risk-Reducing Mastectomy Among and Carriers

Is risk-reducing mastectomy a safe procedure for or carriers in terms of cancer risk and surgical complications?In this cohort study of 1208 women, breast cancer was diagnosed in 1 of 507 women undergoing risk-reducing mastectomy (incidence, 2 cases per 10 000 person-years) and 112 of 701 women not undergoing risk-reducing mastectomy (incidence, 162 cases per 10 000 person-years). Nineteen of 507 women (3.7%) experienced a major early postoperative complication.This study suggests that risk-reducing mastectomy for and carriers is safe.
