Antimicrobial Resistance Trends in Urinary Tract Infections in 6 African Countries

What are the trends of antimicrobial resistance in urinary and in Africa between 2010 and 2022?In this cross-sectional study of 44 367 urinary isolates from Benin, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Madagascar, Morocco, and Senegal, most resistance increased over time, including amoxicillin-clavulanate resistance in most countries. Projected trends suggested that third-generation cephalosporin and carbapenem resistance could exceed 90% by 2050 in most countries.These findings underscore the need for action to curb antimicrobial resistance in Africa.
