SNAP Participation and Cancer Screening for Adults With Food Insecurity

Is food insecurity associated with lower adherence to US Preventive Services Taskforce–recommended cancer screening, and is Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) participation associated with attenuation of these disparities?In this cross-sectional study of 251 107 adults in the 2022 Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System, food insecurity was associated with lower colorectal, breast, and cervical cancer screening adherence. Among food-insecure adults, SNAP participation was associated with higher adjusted screening probabilities across all 3 modalities.These findings suggest that food insecurity was associated with lower adherence to preventive cancer screening, and SNAP participation was associated with attenuation of these disparities among food-insecure adults.
