Neighborhood Disinvestment and Racial Disparities in Early Hypertension Onset Among Women

How early does hypertension occur among Black compared with White women, and to what extent does neighborhood socioeconomic disinvestment modify disparities in early hypertension onset?In this cohort study of 15 313 women, Black women acquired hypertension a median of up to 9.6 years earlier than White women, with disparities persisting across levels of neighborhood disinvestment.These findings suggest intervention strategies that address structural determinants earlier in the life course are needed to eliminate racial disparities in accelerated cardiovascular risk.
