Surgeon Volume and Clinical Outcomes After Robotic Elective and Emergency General Surgery

Is annual surgeon robotic case volume associated with outcomes for both elective and emergency robotic general surgery procedures?In this cohort study including 185 924 patients undergoing robotic general surgery, cases performed by surgeons with higher annual robotic case volumes had significantly lower rates of conversion to open surgery and improved postoperative outcomes in elective and, to a lesser degree, emergency procedures.The findings of this study suggest that surgeon-specific experience may influence outcomes and efficiency in both elective and emergency robotic surgery, with potential impacts on training and credentialing standards.
