Vunakizumab for Radiographic Axial Spondyloarthritis

Is vunakizumab, a novel anti–interleukin (IL) 17A monoclonal antibody, an efficacious and safe treatment option for patients with active ankylosing spondylitis (ie, radiographic axial spondyloarthritis [r-axSpA])?In this randomized clinical trial that included 548 patients with active r-axSpA in China, vunakizumab, 120 mg significantly increased the proportion of patients with an improvement of 20% or more in Assessment of Spondyloarthritis International Society response criteria compared with placebo at week 16 (66% vs 42%, respectively), with response sustained through week 32. The safety profile was tolerable.These findings support vunakizumab, 120 mg as a treatment option for r-axSpA and provide further evidence of its potential role in treating various IL-17–mediated inflammatory diseases.
