Is long-term adherence to or improvement in a healthy lifestyle associated with cardiometabolic disease risk among individuals with hypertension? In a cohort study of 25 820 health professionals with incident hypertension, individuals with a higher healthy lifestyle score (HLS) after diagnosis had a substantially lower risk of cardiometabolic diseases. Increases in HLS from before to after diagnosis were associated with a lower cardiometabolic disease risk, whereas declines in HLS were associated with a higher risk. These findings support lifestyle modification as an essential component of hypertension management.
