State-Level Disparities in Residency Applications After

Did applications from women and men to residency programs in abortion-restricted states decrease compared with programs in nonrestricted states after the Supreme Court decision?In this cross-sectional study of residency application data to 4315 residency programs, including 22 447 175 complete applications, across all medical and surgical specialties, applications from both women and men decreased to programs in abortion-restricted states following the decision.Findings from this study suggest that the decision was associated with disparities in residency applications from both women and men to programs in abortion-restricted states compared with nonrestricted states, providing evidence that may contribute to state-level disparities in the overall health care training pipeline and workforce.
