Perceived Environmental Age Friendliness and Frailty Among Community-Dwelling Older Adults

Is the perception of an age-friendly environment (AFE) associated with frailty among community-dwelling older adults?In this cohort study of 4067 participants who were followed up for 3 years, higher AFE scale scores and all AFE domains were associated with lower odds of frailty progression and onset, except the transportation and built environment domains for frailty onset. Monthly income moderated the association between AFE and frailty onset.The findings of this study suggest that the AFE scale and its domains may represent valuable targets for interventions, as enhancing the age friendliness of communities offers potential for reducing frailty among older adults.
