What are the patterns of intimate partner violence (IPV) lethality risk screening administration and outcomes among Veterans Health Administration patients? In this cross-sectional study of 55 482 patients screened positive for IPV across 135 Veterans Affairs medical centers, 9354 (16.9%) screened positive for IPV-related lethality risk, with women at higher risk than men. However, men were significantly more likely to be misclassified as IPV negative during screening and not administered the subsequent IPV-related lethality screen. These findings suggest that many patients at high risk for IPV-related lethality, especially men, may be missed in screening due to protocol errors and subsequently not connected to critical services and support.
