Is there an association between chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection and pancreatic cancer, independent of other risk factors? In this cohort study of 6.3 million veterans, individuals with chronic HCV developed pancreatic cancer at younger ages and had an increased risk of pancreatic cancer compared with individuals without HCV infection. Risk for pancreatic cancer also varied by HCV genotype. These findings suggest that chronic HCV is a potentially modifiable risk factor for pancreatic cancer.
