What number of cardiovascular disease (CVD) events and deaths could be prevented among US non-Hispanic Black adults if their mean systolic blood pressure (SBP) were lowered to equal that of non-Hispanic White adults? In this modeling study of 10.1 million US Black adults, achieving SBP equity was projected to prevent more than 170 000 CVD events and 75 000 CVD deaths during 10 years among non-Hispanic Black adults 45 years or older, with more than half of the reductions occurring in individuals aged 45 to 64 years. These findings suggest that achieving SBP equity between Black and White adults could substantially reduce CVD burden and may have a substantial impact on equity-focused prevention.
