Do postacute care use and outcomes differ between Medicare Advantage and traditional Medicare beneficiaries? This cohort study of 7 294 038 beneficiaries found that Medicare Advantage enrollment was not associated with postacute care setting decisions. However, Medicare Advantage enrollment was associated with fewer postacute care days, comparable mortality rates, and slightly greater functional improvements vs traditional Medicare. These findings suggest that optimizing postacute care efficiency in traditional Medicare may reduce costs while maintaining beneficiary outcomes.
