Is missing the preceding screening round associated with clinically significant detection delays among women with screen-detected breast cancer? In this cohort study of 8602 participants, women who did not participate in the immediate past screening round before the diagnostic round had worse tumor characteristics and consequently poorer breast cancer–specific survival during the next 20 years. These findings suggest that women with screen-detected breast cancer who missed their immediate past screening experienced clinically relevant worse outcomes and that advancing the next invitation date for women who miss a screening may improve breast cancer outcomes in this population.
