How have weight status and cardiometabolic risk factors changed in children from Cuenca, Spain, over the last 30 years? In this repeated cross-sectional study of 4280 participants, the prevalence of obesity increased markedly until 2010 but has since plateaued. Significant reductions were observed in total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, non-high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, and blood pressure, while insulin concentrations have significantly increased since 2004.In this study excess weight remained concerning, but favorable patterns in lipid profiles and blood pressure suggest improvements in cardiovascular health; however, rising insulin levels may indicate emerging risks.
