Is food insecurity more common in children with chronic conditions? In this cross-sectional study of 2019-2023 data from the National Health Interview Survey, the prevalence of food insecurity was higher among children ages 2 to 17 years with any of 7 chronic conditions compared with those without any of these conditions. This difference persisted even when controlling for several key factors that are associated with chronic conditions and food insecurity, such as income. These results suggest that children with chronic conditions should be prioritized in efforts to screen for food insecurity and efforts to enroll patients in programs designed to mitigate food insecurity.
