Electronic Health Record Interventions to Reduce Risk of Hospital Readmissions

Are electronic health record (EHR)–based interventions associated with reduced risk of hospital readmissions?This systematic review and meta-analysis of 116 randomized clinical trials with 204 523 participants found that EHR-based interventions were associated with reduced risk of 30-day and 90-day all-cause readmission by 17% and 28%, respectively.These findings highlight the potential for leveraging EHR systems to improve patient and health system outcomes, but further research is required to understand which components of EHR interventions drive their effectiveness and for whom.
