Can a 12-month, $80-per-month produce prescription subsidy improve health-related outcomes for patients with type 2 diabetes who are at risk for food insecurity? In this pragmatic randomized clinical trial of 2155 individuals with type 2 diabetes, there were no clinically significant differences in cardiometabolic or health care utilization outcomes between patients who were randomized to receive the subsidy compared with a usual care control group. The trial results suggest that produce prescription subsidy alone did not improve outcomes among patients with diabetes who were at risk for food insecurity.
