How do topical treatments for rosacea compare in efficacy and tolerability? In this network meta-analysis of 32 randomized clinical trials comprising 11 399 patients, topical ivermectin and encapsulated benzoyl peroxide were found to reduce inflammatory lesion counts and increase Investigator Global Assessment success more frequently than metronidazole over 8 to 16 weeks. Encapsulated benzoyl peroxide was associated with higher rates of treatment discontinuation due to adverse events. These findings suggest that ivermectin and encapsulated benzoyl peroxide may provide superior short-term efficacy among topical therapies approved by the US Food and Drug Administration for rosacea.
