Coronary Plaque Progression After Androgen Deprivation Therapy in Men With Prostate Cancer

Is gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) receptor agonist androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) for prostate cancer associated with accelerated coronary atherosclerosis?In a randomized clinical trial of men with prostate cancer treated with radiotherapy and concomitant ADT, the GnRH agonist leuprolide was associated with a significant increase in 12-month coronary artery total plaque volume of 68.9 mm and noncalcified plaque volume of 64.5 mm more than treatment with the GnRH antagonist relugolix.For men with prostate cancer, GnRH agonist leuprolide results in significantly greater near-term coronary plaque progression compared with GnRH antagonist relugolix.
