What are the prevalence and awareness of chronic kidney disease (CKD) among US adults, both overall and in those with cardiometabolic conditions? In this cross-sectional study among a nationally representative sample of US adults, 14.6% had CKD, defined as estimated glomerular filtration rate less than 60 mL/min/1.73 m or urine albumin to creatinine ratio of 30 mg/g or higher. However, only 12.3% reported awareness of weak or failing kidneys; among adults with cardiometabolic conditions, 16.7% had CKD, but only 13.2% were aware of their diagnosis.National efforts are needed in the US to improve CKD awareness, which may support prevention and management to improve outcomes.
