Efficacy and Safety of Digitalis Glycosides in Heart Failure

What are the effects of digitalis glycoside treatment on cardiovascular death and worsening heart failure (HF) events in patients with HF with mildly reduced ejection fraction (HFmrEF) or HF with reduced EF (HFrEF)?In this meta-analysis that included 9013 participants from 3 large trials of digitalis glycosides vs placebo, treatment with digitalis glycosides was associated with a lower risk of the composite of cardiovascular death or first worsening HF events in patients with HFmrEF or HFrEF, mainly through a lower risk of worsening HF events.These findings suggest that additional medical therapy with digitalis glycosides may reduce the risk of worsening HF events, but not mortality, in patients with HFmrEF or HFrEF.
