Can machine learning models provide accurate, clinically interpretable, and individualized risk prediction for major 30-day postoperative complications following glossectomy for tongue cancer?In a nationally representative cohort of 8266 adults undergoing glossectomy for tongue cancer, outcome-specific machine learning models demonstrated clinically meaningful risk stratification for surgical site infection, unplanned reoperation, bleeding requiring transfusion, pneumonia, serious complications, and any complications. These models informed development of a publicly accessible, web-based tongue cancer surgery risk calculator that integrates patient factors and surgical complexity to generate individualized risk estimates.This developed risk calculator provides an interpretable framework for individualized risk estimation in tongue cancer surgery.
