Can parathyroid hormone (PTH) monitoring during thyroidectomy accurately stratify patients into appropriate tiers for postoperative supplementation? In this retrospective cohort study of 217 patients who underwent thyroidectomy, intraoperative PTH monitoring produced a relatively robust model for predicting postoperative supplementation requirements. The study results suggest that intraoperative PTH monitoring can be used to stratify patients for postoperative supplementation, allowing for early, safe discharge that can be adapted by individual institutions.
