Risk Factors for Airway Complications After Thyroplasty and Arytenoid Adduction

What are the risk factors for airway complications after thyroplasty and arytenoid adduction?This cohort study using a national inpatient database to evaluate 8626 adults patients (>16 years old) found that advanced age, type of surgery, use of anticoagulant and antiplatelet drugs, chronic pulmonary disease, and metastatic cancer were associated with higher rates of airway complications.These findings suggest that optimized management of anticoagulant and antiplatelet therapy, preoperative risk assessment, and perioperative airway management for chronic pulmonary disease may reduce the risk of airway complications.
