What are cancer type–specific contributions to the reduction in the cancer mortality gap between Black individuals and White individuals from its peak period (1991-1995) to a contemporary period (2019-2023) in the US?In this cross-sectional temporal analysis, lung (31.1%), prostate (25.8%), and esophageal (12.1%) cancer among males and colorectal (18.8%), cervical (16.9%), and lung (15.1%) cancer among females accounted for the largest share of reductions in the all-cancer excess mortality rate. Breast cancer and uterine corpus cancer (with persistent or worsening disparities) ranked highest in excess mortality during the contemporary period along with prostate cancer.The findings may guide more targeted and efficient cancer prevention and control strategies to address racial disparities.
