Can consensus be achieved for updated diagnostic criteria for vascular cognitive impairment and dementia (VCID) accounting for recent research developments?In this Delphi study including 70 invited participants, 49 to 54 international experts agreed on diagnostic criteria for preclinical, mild, and major dementia levels of vascular cognitive impairment (under the overarching term ). Biomarkers were incorporated into criteria primarily as features that may suggest an alternative or concomitant etiology to vascular disease.The VasCog-2-WSO criteria provide operationalized guidance that accounts for recent research advancements and should provide an international standard for VCID diagnosis.
