Streamlining Inherited Cancer Identification via an EMR-Integrated Risk Assessment Platform

Will a patient-facing, electronic medical record–integrated risk assessment platform be completed by patients and improve detection of patients at risk of inherited cancers?In this nonrandomized clinical trial in 1685 patients, the majority (74.6%) engaged with the electronic medical record–integrated risk assessment platform and approximately one-half (49.1%) completed it with enough detail to generate a report. Among those completed the risk assessment, almost one-third met criteria for genetic counseling, yet only 47.7% had been previously identified as at risk for a genetic condition.These findings show that patient portal–integrated platforms can facilitate identification of patients at risk of inherited cancer.
