Is type of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) treatment associated with risk of major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) in Medicare patients with IBD?In this comparative effectiveness study of 16 387 Medicare beneficiaries with IBD, there were no statistically significant differences in MACE events over up to 3 years of follow-up between patients treated with immunomodulators or biologics vs those treated with 5-aminosalicylic acid (5-ASA).This comparative effectiveness study found that use of immunomodulators or biologics was not associated with increased risk of MACE in older adults with IBD compared with 5-ASA therapy.
