Match Rates for a Surgical Mentorship Program for Underrepresented Learners

What are the surgical residency match outcomes of a dedicated surgical mentorship program for underrepresented learners?In this quality improvement study involving mentorship program data from 235 mentees and 225 mentors between 2022 and 2025, UpSurge, a large and diverse surgical mentorship program with mentees from 14 medical schools across Canada and 30 countries internationally, matched 58% of the eligible Canadian medical graduates to surgical disciplines.This study of participants in a dedicated surgical mentorship program for underrepresented learners with a high match rate to surgical residency programs suggests that continued investment into programs such as UpSurge may help improve surgical workforce diversity.
