Screening Eligibility and Survival Among Patients With Lung Cancer in Korea

What are the characteristics and survival outcomes of patients with lung cancer in Korea by screening eligibility under international recommendations?In this cohort study of 89 860 patients newly diagnosed with lung cancer, 35.4% were eligible for screening under American Cancer Society guidelines (aged 50-80 years with ≥20 pack-years of smoking history), whereas 44.1% had no smoking history. Patients aged 50-80 years with lower or no smoking exposure had significantly better survival than those who met the screening criteria.These findings suggest that current screening eligibility thresholds exclude a substantial proportion of Asian patients with lung cancer who may benefit from early detection.
