Is acceptance of payments from medical device manufacturers associated with physician utilization of the manufacturers’ devices? In this cross-sectional study linking device industry payments and Medicare claims for 12 devices between 2015 and 2023, cumulative payments exceeded $136 million, and more than a half million device-associated procedures were performed. Physicians who accepted higher payments from a manufacturer had greater utilization of that manufacturer’s device. These findings suggest that higher device-related industry payments to physicians are associated with increased utilization of corresponding devices.
